Masood Mehboob Khan (Mumbai)
وَاِذَا نَادَيْتُمْ اِلَی الصَّلٰوةِ.
"And when you call to prayer, they take it in ridicule and amusement. That is because they are a people who do not use reason." (Al-Ma'ida : 5:58)
In the historical narrations, we see that during the journey of Ascension, ie, Laylat-ul-Isra, the Prophet (SAW) heard the angels giving "Azaan". It was only after this Azaan that the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allah be upon him) led the prayers. That is, the first words of the call to prayer were heard on the night of Ascension (Shab e mehraj). Therefore, they are words from Allah Almighty. Hazrat Abdullah bin Zaid (RA) and Hazrat Umar Farooq (RA) also heard his words in their dreams.
"Azaan" is an Arabic word and is the plural of azan, which means 'ear'. Azaan literally means to warn. "Azaan" is a definite Sunnah, which is close to obligatory and with the distinguishing symbol of religion, is one of the rites of religion. Azaan is also a complete call to Islam.
Through the call to prayer, in every corner of the world, the greatness and greatness of Allah, the Lord of the worlds, the testimony of Tawheed and Prophethood is proclaimed. The words of the call to prayer are the basic tenets of Islam. The purpose of the call to prayer is the summary and essence of the whole religion, therefore it is called "Al-Dawa Al-Tamat" (الدعوۃ التامۃ).
Performing the duties and obligations of worship in the Arabic language promotes the tendency of universality, globalization and centralism among Muslims. One of the best manifestations of which is the call to prayer. A universal religion requires that its followers share the basics, that they show a front and a line. The supplications and words recited in the adhan and namaz are things that can be considered basic, which gives rise to a society which we can call vested. The formation of such a society is not possible without a single language, on which all Muslims agree, and in the eyes of artists, Arabic is one of the most comprehensive and perfect languages in the world. As an international language and the language of Azaan and Prayer, it is a symbol of unity and harmony.
We see that the series of Fajr Azaan does not end all over the world. The Azaan of Zuhr starts rising from the minarets of the mosques. Do they not indicate the universality, globalization and centrality of the Arabic language and Islam? This point will also be effective and useful in the path of Da'wah for those who have the attributes of supplication.
If Islam was a regional, ethnic or national religion, then there would be no problem for anyone to deal with religious matters in the language of their own region, region, race or nation. But the requirements of a universal religion are quite different, its followers speak hundreds of regional languages which are incomprehensible even to different groups living in different parts of the world.
After the Messenger of Allah, the Companions of the Prophet, the Companions, the followers and the followers have always performed the rules of Islamic worship in the Arabic language. While the mother tongue of some of the Companions was other than Arabic, but there is not a single incident in history in which a Companion in any language other than Arabic has given Azaan, Iqamah, Prayer, Friday Sermon.
The commentator of the Qur'an, Hazrat Abdullah bin Abbas (RA) had some interpreters for him, but not once in his blessed life did he deliver the sermon in any language other than Arabic. Nor did he end his argument by establishing his views on the subject. Hazrat Abu Hurayrah (RA), despite living in a non-Arabic area, never delivered a sermon in non-Arabic language or used non-Arabic language in between sermons.
Scholars have written that from takbeer tahrimah to salutation, whatever is recited in the prayers, it is necessary to recite the adhan and iqamah in Arabic language before the prayers. In "Sharh-e-Mawta" Shah Waliullah Muhaddith Dehlavi (RA) has written that the sermon should be in Arabic language only. Imam Nawawi (RA) has written in his book Al-Azkar that the terms of the sermon include that it should be in Arabic.
Some scholars of the nation even say that what is the use of reciting a sermon in Arabic when the audience does not understand the Arabic text. It has been mentioned in the light of Qur'an and Hadith that remembrance of Allah is more important than sermon and admonition in sermon and worship should be done. Also, if this objection is imposed on the recitation of the sermon, then the same objection should be raised on prayers, recitation of the Qur'an, adhan and iqamah and takbeer prayers, etc., but the recitation of the Qur'an should be imposed more than the sermon because In general, recitation alone is not enough for guidance but it is also important to understand it, but no scholar of the world allows recitation of Qur'an in any language other than Arabic in prayer.
When it has been the practice of our forefathers in the matter of sermons and recitations, the position regarding adhan, prayers and other dhikrs must have been even more strict. Sermon is the name of remembrance of Allah. Sermon is the name given to sermons and exhortations which are delivered to the people on the occasion of Friday prayers or Eid. It is masnun and inherited to recite both sermons in pure Arabic in Friday prayers. The sermon has not been proved in any language other than Arabic. Khitab is the best means of preaching Islam or Da'wah of Islam but it has not been changed.
The sermon of Friday and Eid should be in Arabic language only, like Surah Al-Fatihah, recitation of Qur'an and glorification of bowing and prostration etc. However, in the sermon, the purpose of remembrance of Allah is more than sermons and exhortations. If these dhikrs are accompanied by local translations then the humility of the listeners is doubled.
The Shari'ah rules are not based on reason or conjecture as to whom it considers right or wrong, but on the sayings and actions of the Holy Prophet (SAW) narrated from the Holy Qur'an and its Companions, followers and followers, ie the hadiths of the Prophet.
A proposal has come to light which has been circulating on social media platforms for the last two days. Explaining that "there are three major benefits of reciting Azaan in Hindi and regional languages from mosques."
Here the question arises that if we take the example of India alone, then India is a country where 122 major languages and 1599 minor languages are used. Will it be possible that the meaning of the words or words of the call to prayer and its true meaning will be fulfilled? Will more and more people really get acquainted and benefit from this call to prayer? And they will repent of the enmities and hatreds within themselves. Will this practice provide opportunities for da'wah activities in the country? In my opinion, the advantages and disadvantages of such a theory or proposal will be less. Because the vocabulary in the Arabic vocabulary provides the most suitable word for the expression of every condition, verb and attitude related to human life. It is only in the Arabic language that it is possible that the form of the verb changes to masculine and feminine.
Take only one word Ishwar from the Hindi translation of Azaan, linguists know that Ishwar can never be a translation of Allah. Because Aishwarya can be many and big and small. Such as Prameshwar or Param Prameshwar. So how can a word which has both a diminutive and a takbeer and a singular and a plural form be used as a substitute for Allah. Siddhishwar, Venkateshwar, Rameshwar, Trimbakishwar in what sense they will be taken.
He further elaborates on the three major benefits: "Muslims will understand the meaning of the call to prayer and their faith will be renewed again and again."
After the call to prayer, if people have any problem as to why the recitation in prayer is done in Arabic, when the Indian worshipers do not understand Arabic? It should also be paid with different regional translations. Will doing so further increase the renewal of faith of Muslims?
The example of Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) is given, while it should be noted that Imam Abu Hanifa (RA) had initially adopted the view of sermons and prayers from non-Arabs that it is correct to offer sermons and prayers in non-Arabic language, but later He turned to her. (Which is mentioned in the famous books of jurisprudence, Hidayah of Al-Marghnani and Dar Al-Mukhtar of Al-Haskafi). He later agreed with the consensus of the ummah that "under normal circumstances, the words in the prayer should be performed in Arabic only. There are exceptions according to the circumstances. It will take some time to memorize the words and in the meanwhile he can play the words in the language he understands.
In the present age, our monotheistic intellectuals keep creating various new things in their minds to tear apart the religious unity of the nation so that this religious, global and universal unity of the Muslim Ummah does not remain and the Ummah suffers from anarchy. Stay Today we are targeting worship like Azaan. Tomorrow's sermons will be aimed at later prayers. "
Regarding Adhan and Prayer, Kamal Ataturk had created the temptation that prayer should be in Turkish language and also the words of Azaan should be recited in Turkish language. Due to which in 1933 the call to prayer in Arabic language and recitation of the Holy Quran was banned. Azaan and recitation began to be given in Turkish language. As a result of which Arabs were expelled from Turkey, the expulsion of Arabs is the result of a long wave of Islamophobia. In this context, both religious and worldly interests demand that while maintaining the spirit of the call to prayer, worship like the call to prayer should not be given in any other language. Has the situation become so unfavorable that only the prophetic and ascendant form of this Sunnah of the Prophet can be changed?
We know that the Companions and our forefathers conquered large areas with different languages and different civilizations. But nowhere has this Sunnah of the Prophet been changed, but these non-Arab Muslims have made themselves capable of understanding the prayers and sermons and the Qur'an and Hadith in Arabic only, but today we want to change them and listen to them in our own language. And they don't even try to make themselves worthy of it. It is a pity that the language of others is learned with great effort for the sake of worldly gain and protection of life and property. Absolute attention is not paid to this statement:
Therefore, the Sunnah and the Sunnah of the Rightly Guided Caliphs,
(You must follow the way of me and the Rightly Guided Caliphs. Hold fast to it.)
The benefactor of humanity also states that,
"Come on in, take a look."
(Stay away from new things.)
Jb. Ghazi Sahib also missed an advantage that "the call of Islam will reach all the people again and again every day."
The basic justification for reciting the Azaan in Arabic is that the Azaan is the worship of Islam and the Sunnah of Khatam-un-Nabiyyin. We know that worship is Tawfiq. Islam wants the call to prayer, which is the motto of Islam, to remain the same throughout all centuries and times without any change. If it is decided that each person should recite the Azaan in his / her mother tongue, then there is an increase in the number of words in it and the possibility of mixing distorted and baseless demands with superstitions and it is possible that as a result of these changes It will be forgotten and its profound meaning and effects will not be passed on to future generations.
He further added that "all the efforts of the miscreants against the call to prayer will be thwarted."
The issue of opposition to the call to prayer is not of today, it has been seen since the time of the Messenger of Allah. The Qur'an states in Surah Al-Ma'ida, verses 89-90, "When you preach the call to prayer, they make fun of it and play with it. The reason is that they do not have intellect."
While that society was deeply familiar with the meaning and concept of Azaan. Then why the opposition to the call to prayer? We know that the opposition and enmity of the forces of falsehood is against Islamic teachings and rules. No matter how democratic, peaceful and constitutional you may be, no matter how much you show religious tolerance, they will not give up their hostility towards Islam, that is their style and character. Their hatred and enmity, their enmity and hatred, compels them to do all this. Opponents do not oppose the call to prayer because they do not know the meaning of the call to prayer, but they oppose Islam because they hate Islam.
They object to our Islamic identity, Islamic names, your prayers, your sharia laws, your beard, your burqa and hijab, the areas with Urdu names, mosques. In their eyes, the domes and minarets of mosques are like beams in their eyes. If we take the path of benevolence and reconciliation everywhere, we will be so changed that our Islamic, religious and national identity will be destroyed. Why should we change ourselves and destroy our religious and national identity?
If your suggestion is correct then even an atheist like Tariq Fateh would be proud of the fact that he correctly suggested that Indian Muslims should change their Islamic names to Hindi. If someone's name is Mohammad Shah Zafar then he should reduce Mohammad and keep Raja Vijay. If there is any Shams then he should change his name to Syria.
By the way, it takes 3 to 4 minutes for the call to prayer. Even these times were not tolerated by the enemies of Islam. Now the time of translation Azaan should be increased to 6 to 8 minutes, which is causing more irritation for the objectors.
Respected's suggestion is that "Arabic Azaan should be given and Hindi Azaan should be recited along with it. Azaan should be given in Arabic without loudspeaker and in Hindi with loudspeaker. "
Those who are experts in linguistics point out that the eloquence, eloquence, eloquence and diction of Arabic language are unmatched by any other language in the world. And you want to keep that language to a secondary level. You yourself are saying that the call to prayer in Arabic without loudspeakers and in Hindi loudspeakers is a strange thing.
Allah, the Lord of the worlds! The series of words of Azaan, Revelation and Revelation of the Qur'an has been done in Arabic on Khatam-un-Nabiyyin Syedna Muhammad. Who gave us the authority to give preference to another language over the Arabic language adhan without giving a damn? However, translations of Azaan can be done in different languages, human beings have also done translations but this translation cannot be the source of this spiritual journey. Spiritual journey is possible only by using the original Arabic.
Darul Iftaa, Jamia-ul-Uloom Islamia, issued a fatwa under the terms of the Azaan, stating that the adhan should be in time, in Arabic, in order of words and in succession, that is, not to communicate in between.
He further says that "let us take a revolutionary decision and in the form of Azaan, convey the message of religion to all the people of the country. Azaans should be heard from mosques in all languages of the country, .......
Is the method of propagating and propagating Islam appropriate now that we now prefer Arabic as well as other languages of our worship? However, no other language in the world can equal the Arabic language. Compared to Arabic, the popular languages of the time (Persian, Chinese, Sanskrit, Hebrew, Roman Latin, and Egyptian) did not have such a large vocabulary, nor was their grammar so advanced that they Perfect for all kinds of expressions.
What is the method of invitation? Our forefathers have written numerous books on it, but nowhere has this kind of rare and experienced method or suggestion gone unnoticed. Which are being presented in the present era.
Now let us imagine that if we are in a country or area where people do not live in a mosque-like building but gather in a holy place and offer prayers, if we pass by there and call to prayer in regional and local language. Listen to the loudspeaker, a language that we are not familiar with, what will be our attitude at this time, this scene also needs to be seen through the eyes of imagination. There are many areas in the world where the shape and construction of the mosque is such that the mosque is not visible at all.
Jb. Mohi-ud-Din Ghazi should keep in mind that he is considered responsible for a major Islamic movement in India and at the same time is serving as the editor of the monthly mouth organ "Zindagi e Nau". ۔ In these situations the sense of responsibility increases. People do not see you as an individual, but as a person responsible for the community. Therefore, while presenting suggestions and opinions on any sensitive topic, great care should be taken. In any case, the people of Tehreek-e-Islami are always on target, why should we open our mouths on such a subject which will cause more chaos and loss and less benefit !!!
There was a time when the eye of the beholder also saw the scene that in order to keep alive the importance and usefulness of the call to prayer, till the completion of the call to prayer, 22 believers, Saeed Nafus, embraced death. Indeed, the Azaan given on July 13, 1931 is the only Azaan in the world, for which 22 people sacrificed their lives and embraced martyrdom. And today we are presenting arguments to save lives, in the name of wisdom and expediency, in the name of da'wah and preaching to change Islamic worship. Sorry about that.
Here are some poems by Sarfraz Bazmi (Rajasthan) on the idea of translating Azaan in other languages.
The connection between soul and body is between body and soul
That is the language of the Qur'an from the call to prayer
Don't know that he is a creation of the earth
The earth does not have grace, it belongs to heaven
Why rate a language other than that?
The question is about the religion of Muhammad
They will forget every instrument of blasphemy
The style of rifles and knives will be forgotten
The chest of Shabestan disbelief is torn
Our children will forget that voice
Don't take the soul out of Azaan
That the words of the call to heart will be forgotten
In Azaan, the soul of Bilali is from this language
The power in the arrow of Azaan is from this bow
Where is the city of polytheism?
This difference is due to this Azaan, O foolish heart
Raheen Mant Roh Bilal Hai Bazmi
The connection to the land of Bukhara is from Isfahan
